TWYFORD
Project: New 6th Form Centre Phase 1 & Grant Application
Location: Acton London W3
Client: Twyford C o E High Church of England School
The practice was appointed as the lead designer with a one stop appointment including NBFP as the lead designer/architects, M & E, structural engineers, Health & Safety coordinator and Cost Consultants.
The Elms, a Grade 2 listed building forms the centrepiece of the school buildings.
In consultation with the school, the LDBS and the LSC, the practice produced a masterplan for the phased redevelopment of the campus including a new 6th Form Centre, new café, new Mathematics and Science Centre, new chapel, new Inclusion Centre and Language Centre, alterations and refurbishment of the school Hall, Science laboratories, IT centres, library and staff and students facilities.
Phase 1 of the project catered for a new 6th Form centre given the growth of the 6th Form students population. The 6th form population was 250 at the time and the students number projection from the masterplan of 500 has now been achieved, 3 years following the implementation of the 6th Form Centre.
Part of our brief was to hold close liaison with the school management staff and Governors and ensure that the school's vision could be realised. A grant for £8,000,000 was obtained from the LSC and the main components of the masterplan have now been implemented.
With the school we are now entering a new phase of discussions with the YPLA for grant funding of further phases of work.

The New Centre for Creative Industries and Student Support is an important project for the school. It significantly improves a number of curriculum areas, which were housed in cramped, poor quality accommodation which had not been designed for its current use. These phases resolved serious accommodation deficiencies that impact on the teaching and learning of pupils with Learning Difficulties and on the whole School teaching and learning in Music Technology( the school's second curriculum speciality) and Religious Education.
Project: Mathematics & Science Centre
Location: Acton London W3
Client: Twyford C of E High Church of England School
The proposed Mathematics and Science Centre extension is on 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor levels above the new Café on the West end of 'A' Block on the School Campus. The footprint of the proposed upper floors is set back considerably from the Café footprint in order to minimize impact on the adjacent Grade 2 Listed Building, The Elms. The Café acts as a podium to the upper floors. The curved West elevation of the extension also helps soften the impact on the Elms.
The scope of the works included the refurbishment of the existing science laboratories and teaching accommodation for Mathematics and Modern Foreign languages ( one of the school's specialities)
